What is MoreSports? MoreSports is a collaborative initiative that provides sustainable sport and physical activity opportunities for children and families living in Vancouver. Soccer, basketball, floor hockey, badminton and coaching programs are currently offered along with special events. Why is MoreSports unique? The 'MoreSports Model' is truly unique and represents sustainability and inclusivity in action. MoreSports includes ALL partners in the delivery of its programs and events including community centres, neighbourhood houses, local schools, recreation organizations, local government, school districts, non-profits, private businesses and foundations. This partnership model maximizes community capacity building and opportunities for kids. Who can join MoreSports? Essentially MoreSports is open to everyone. Whether as a participant in one of its many programs, as a volunteer, community partner or sponsor, the initiative encourages access and inclusion. MoreSports has a special focus on people who typically do not participate in sports such as girls, children from diverse ethnic groups, and those who simply face barriers to participation in sports such as cost and transportation. How do I join a MoreSports Program? It's easy to join a MoreSports program. Simply check out this website for current and upcoming programs in your neighbourhood hub. If you find something you like, contact the Hub Developer or contact person listed beside the program. They will provide you with information on how to register and other details. How much does it cost to join a MoreSports Program? For some MoreSports programs there is a small fee to join the program, and for others participation is free. As part of the MoreSports mission to reduce the barriers to participation in sport and activity, we strive to keep registration fees affordable. No child is denied the ability to participate due to an inability to pay.What is the reach of MoreSports? Today, MoreSports involves 6 Hubs that encompass 16 neighbourhoods, multiple partners, parents, volunteers and thousands of kids located primarily on the East Side of Vancouver. |
