Written for the McConnell Family Foundation, this paper provides an overview of the MoreSports/YELL history and structure, highlighting the value of building on existing community organizations and providing activities children want. The initiative's inclusionary, capacity building approach supports flexibility for community partners within a context of universally applied principles.
John Cawley, Program Manager at the McConnell Foundation, summarized the paper’s theme this way:
“This may appear to be a story about a great community sports program. Actually it is about citizens in one of the most vulnerable neighbourhoods in the country mobilizing to create spaces and opportunities for their kids to have healthy and happy lives. Sports and recreation is the product but community development is what is really going on.”
