Nov 30, 2007 - posted by East Central for Fastbreak Basketball

East Central has just moved its basketball program directly into its supporting elementary schools this fall but already “the interest in the sport and its delivery via an afterschool timetable within its respective school has been noted” comments MoreSports East Central Hub Coordinator and Yell (Youth, Engage, Learn, Lead) Coordinator, Michael Henderson. East Central launched a pilot project in basketball this fall beginning Wednesday, October 31st and Thursday, November 1st with a Grade 4/5 group of 8 kids on Wednesdays’ and another 13 Grade 6/7s’ on Thursdays’ out of Cunningham Elementary School afterschool. Led by a Yell Van Technical Secondary School Grade 12 student from the hubs supporting partner, the Van Technical Community Schools team, Antonia Ferguson has applied her Yell training she received in a NCCP Technical Level One program to her tough student critics at Cunningham. Antonia has put our basketball participants through their paces as the kids have developed their skills in passing, dribbling, shooting, and rebounding via activities and games. She has received great reviews and both the hubs coordinator and its Coyote Cunningham squads are pleased that she is returning for the continuation of this schools basketball season running on the same nights beginning the latter part of January. The winter season will see the addition of both Grade 2's and 3's with the Grade 4 players on Wednesday night while the Grade 5's will make the move to Thursday nights to play with the Grade 6 & 7's.  Stay tuned to this website for further details about basketball, badminton, and Volleyball to be offered as part of the East Central Hub in the Winter Session.
