Moresports Personality ProfilesLearning to Play With Jose
Jose Castillo Guatemalan
Pizza
A little bit of everything but mostly R & B.
Other than Sports, I love to hang out with my friends or play sports with the kids.
In the future I know I want to be working with kids in some way or another, however I can get involved.
Jose Castillo
At 18 years old Jose is making a difference at his local Community Centre. Jose has spent the better part of his youth participating in programs at Ray-Cam Community Center and now he's giving back to his community. A native of the area, Jose attended Seymour Elementary School where he got his start as both an athlete, and a volunteer. "I started playing seasonal sports at school mostly soccer, basketball and football and then started playing KLM soccer. Football is definitely my favourite sport now, both CFL and NFL." Volunteering is nothing new to this bright young leader who got his start in 2001, volunteering at both Seymour Elementary and Ray-Cam Community Centre. His interest in sport gave way to volunteering in an Open Gym program for the younger grades during lunch hour and donating his time at the Cafeteria. As a MoreSports leader, Jose has taken the reigns of the afterschool sports program Mini-MoreSports, which aims to provide movement experiences to the Kindergarteners and a fun sports environment to its older participants. This is Jose's first time working as a volunteer for MoreSports but his passion for working with children is evident to anyone who watches him lead. He has a unique ability to connect with his younger peers, and enhance their enjoyment of the program. "My favourite part about MoreSports is that I get to just play with the kids" It doesn't stop with MoreSports for this ambitious young man. Jose has been volunteering his time with Ray-Cam's Latch Key Program. Latch Key offers after school care for children age 5-12 years, providing a fun, safe and creative environment. Jose has been working 1 on 1 with one of the autistic children in the program. Although he is enjoying his volunteer experience, Jose hopes that once he turns 19 he can take on a larger role with Latch Key. "I really enjoyed the week I spent there and I hope to do more in the future" With a wealth of enthusiasm and passion for working with children, Jose has become a role model for MorSports and his community. "In the future I know I want to be working with kids in some way or another, however I can get involved." |
