YELL Coaching ProgramProgram CalendarMy Yell HomeAbout YELL Coaching ProgramYELL (Youth, Engage, Learn, Lead)Officially launched in June 2007, Yell came to fruition through the lack of available coaching resources to support the success of MoreSports and its childrens’ sports initiatives extended through 7 hubs across Vancouver. The premise of MoreSports Yell and its eventual inception through funding support received in April 2007 was a project to develop youth volunteers and leaders in the communities served by the MoreSports program. Extended to Youth between the ages of 12 & 23, Yell provides potential youth leaders from all backgrounds with several training options (See Course Descriptions- Coming Soon) through its School and Community Based Streams. Yell participants in exchange for this training receive placements within the confines of MoreSports, Vancouver School Board, and Parks and Recreation programs to support their continuity while building their leadership portfolios through these practical experiences.

As a strong partner in executing the philosophy behind MoreSports Yell, Yell workshop opportunities have been embedded within physical education and leadership class curriculum on timetable as well as outside of class time beginning with Killarney Secondary School as a MoreSports Yell screening pilot in the 2006/2007 school calendar year. Extracurricular and intramural school based recreation activities had been adversely affected by the depletion of volunteer coaches and officials within the Vancouver School board. Yells’ mandate was looked to as a means of strengthening its sports programs through its insertion of high quality volunteer placements for school community service programs. Upon the successful launch of this pilot, the Vancouver School Board, which is comprised of 12 community school teams, has had 6 additional secondary schools and their respective community school teams adopt Yell as of September 2007. In addition to Killarney now in their second year of Yell, Templeton, Gladstone, Van Tech, King George, Britannia and Tupper secondary schools have all launched the Yell program with further updates on their progress and course happenings to be made available on this website.
